How much tile adhesive do I need?
Usually, a bag of 20 kg is enough for an area of 4-5 sqm. But the usage often depends on many other factors, like the types of working tools or the skills of the person who is laying the tiles. That’s why we said “usually”.
Why should I use the tile adhesive? The main advantages
Because of its innumerable advantages. Here are some of them:
- Excellent resistance to low and high temperatures;
- Marginal contraction after the hardening;
- High resistance to loads;
- High resistance to chemical and atmospheric agents;
- It is non-flammable;
- It is not toxic;
It’s worth adding that the adhesive layer, that has to be applied to the bottom screed, must be really thin and this means a lower load to the building structure.
What type of tile adhesive should I use?
In order to simplify the choice of materials, which are used for tiles installations (adhesives, grouts, membranes, and screeds), the European standards community prepared a classification system.
If you want to know more about this classification, you should read this document: http://bit.ly/2ofg43J.
How can I apply the tile adhesive?
It’s really easy to use it. You just have to mix the tile adhesive with water. Furthermore, the laying doesn’t require any expensive equipment. The adhesive does not dry immediately after the application and this allows you to lay the tiles well and carefully. So, even if you are not a specialist, you will be able to get a surprising effect. After an appropriate application of the adhesive and of the tiles, the wall and the floor will finally have an aesthetic value.
Remember that every tile adhesive has its reference code and according to the code, the adhesive is more or less resistant and can be put on the floor, on the wall, outdoor or indoor. The adhesive, when the tile is properly installed, it’s not visible. Usually, a white adhesive is not suitable for a floor because it hasn’t a sealing.
What should I pay attention to?
Before using the tile adhesive, make sure that the bottom screed is properly leveled. If the bottom screed is not uniform, how is it possible to obtain perfectly leveled tiles? You have to lay the cement leveler in liquid form on the bottom screed to get a perfect flatness, then you can install the tiles. You should also remember that the choice of the tile adhesive depends mainly on three important factors:
- The type of surface;
- The type of tiles;
- Where you want to lay the tiles (outdoor or indoor).
Is the tile adhesive worth using?
Above, we’ve mentioned about the multiple advantages of the tile adhesive, one of the most frequently chosen materials used for tiles installations. You should definitely use it, provided that you analyzed some important factors before (the status of the existing surface and if this is indoor or outdoor).
